cost of living

My longishly-lost (aka: at university) cousin Joya is home for reading week. This is great, because it means I got the opportunity to meet her for coffee this evening after work and spend a few hours at some non-descript Tim Hortons between Toronto and Hamilton chatting. It was not so great because, much to my dismay, I realized I couldn't make out the small print on the giant Roll Up the Rim Poster dangling from the ceiling. . . and then I realized that me feeling like I need to clean my glasses so often in the last month has likely actually been more about me going blind, or at least less unblind.

I am also anticipating the possibilty of getting wisdom teeth pulled this year and while it would be great if all of it got covered (rather than part $), it is not.

OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) fails when it comes to dental and optical. I ought to write an ode to the days when they covered more optical. The McGuinty gov't may have thought abolishing that slice of OHIP was a good way to redirect a few pennies elsewhere, but I'm of the general idea that a thriving society is made of people who can see. I suppose I shouldn't complain too much, since I don't have to worry about taking out a loan or losing life savings due to possible broken bones, heart surgery, or anything else, but still. . . .

It's really not really worth a blog complaint; I just get annoyed at the cost of living this time of the year. 'Tis the season to be throwing money at things. Taxes. RSPs. Car Insurance, etc. Might as well throw in the teeth and specs and have them all done in one shot.

Lovely.

Now that the venting session is over, I will find something more productive to do. . . .

. . . like putting on more layers. I hear it's supposed to be March at the end of the week, but we're getting yet another dump of the fluffy white stuff tonight and let me tell ya, it sure doesn't feel like Spring is coming any time soon. I love the white stuff and we've had so much that I broke out the snoeshoes last weekend. Even so, some sunshine would be especially appreciated.

Hope you're all keeping warm.
