Yes, it seems my new trend is to write on this thing on Canadian long weekends. This long weekend is in honour of Canada Day (July 1, Sunday). I DO plan to write more often, but time slips away . . . or gets caught in other slices of my busy and not-so-busy life.
For now I'll just let anyone who still reads this that I haven't forgotten you. In fact, I love you.
And today I love Canada. More strongly than the usual bias-affection. It is refreshing to live in a place of belonging after 4 years of being a foreigner in over 10 different countries. I now live in "my" flavour of space, surrounded instead by thousands of people who are foreigners in this country that feels so familiar to me. My role, my purpose, my actions/interactions change and in some ways I fall easily back into the familiarity of me in this place . . . but in some ways I need to re-learn what the photo of me in "this place" should look like from a distance. Sometimes this place is beautiful and sometimes it's ugly. Sometimes I love living here. Sometimes I want to escape it all. I imagine that is how it is almost everywhere for everyone. The colour your grass grows depends on how we choose to water it. . . or not water at all.
It's late. I'm tired.
Goodnight.
Wel te rusten.
