Here's another recommendation: "Letting Your Life Speak" by Palmer - It's a thin little read. I won't post the photo for this one, because the cover just isn't as cool. The first chapter isn't THAT enthralling, but the 2nd one was good for me and you should ALL read it. You need NOT read the back cover and cringe at the idea of a book on "calling", my Dordt folkies. It's not about "calling"; It's about "vocation", in what I think is a TRULY reformed sense, not the semi-reformed version of vocation some profs at Dordt try to lavish apon you which more often ends up as a discussion about, well, jobs and community service (though I guess I can't be too harsh, college is supposed to get us jobs, right?) Don't get me wrong. Dordt's about as "Reformed" as they come, but it's a mere one of 3 flavo(u)rs of Christian Reformed (see CRC identity statement for more info) and that's only considering the CRC version of "reformed". . . The world of "reformed" is SO much bigger than that!
This is starting to sound like a rant on Dordt. It's not. Not supposed to be. To you who read this: I love you! I'm glad I went to Dordt to meet you! And there are some profs that I love too, that are great people and who inspire their students to do great things, such as REALLY LIVING.
But BACK to the book. You should read it. Or at least up to chapter 2. I may keep you updated. I'm reading all about how what I think I should be doing might not be what I should be doing. And how sometimes being pinned under a rock in the dark is a good thing. I think I've been pinned under a rock for 2 months now.
But ABOUT THAT: I think the boulder's a liftin'. Dare I say that I MAY, possibly, probably am getting better?!! I'll spare you the details, but in short, I don't feel as bad as I did a few posts ago and THAT, mijn vrienden, is a good thing!
